When attention is scattered, a small opening ritual can help you begin. A “one-stick” focus session uses a clear start, a single task, and a clear finish. It works whether you use incense, a timer, or no fragrance at all.
Make one boundary
Choose a task that fits one session: outline an article, read one chapter, organize references, or draft a product description. Put your phone away, prepare water, and write the task on a card. If using incense, follow fire-safety and ventilation guidance; never use it unattended.
End on purpose
When the timer ends, note what you completed and the next smallest step. This ritual is not a productivity cure or a promise of deeper focus. It is a repeatable cue that tells your mind: this block belongs to one thing.
